Sweet Clover (Hubam White) - OMRI Inoculated

Description

Hubam White Sweet Clover can produce up to 9,000 lbs dry matter per acre over a summer after being oversown into a grain crop or direct seeded with a spring grain nurse crop. While its taproot is shorter and more slender than that of its biennial cousins, it still loosens subsoil compaction. Annual sweetclovers work best in the Deep South, from Texas to Georgia as they are not frost tolerant. There, they establish more quickly than the biennial types and produce more biomass in the seeding year in southern regions.

    Hubam for honeybees

I broadcast seeded 2 acres of Hubam on April 28, 2023 in east central Missouri. Field was burned a month before then lightly disked, harrowed, broadcast, finish harrowed and then rolled with a double cultipacker. Seeding rate was 15 lbs/acre. After germination and at a height of about 6 inches high, Clethodim @E was spray applied per instructions to kill the leftover foxtail and grasses quickly growing with the clover. At 90 days, the clover averaged 18" high and was in full bloom. Late July and August are the normal dearth period for honeybees with little to no nectar sources but the Hubam clover was humming with honeybees from my 5 hives, bumblebees and other native bees. Honey was extracted before the Hubam came into bloom and the hives are all now quickly refilling those frames with new honey from this field.

I highly recommend this seed for beekeepers with some land.
