  • Annual Summer Honey Mix

    Annual Summer Honey Mix

    Out of stock

The Annual Summer Honey Mix was developed in conjunction with the Nebraska Beekeepers Association. This annual honey mix is specially designed with annual species that will offer up copious amounts of nectar for honeybees during the entire season. Plant when ground temperatures reach 50-55°F from mid-April to late May in Zone 5 (earlier in Zone 6 and later in Zone 4). 1/8” planting depth is ideal, no deeper than 1/4” in planting depth. Can be drilled or broadcast seeded, but if broadcast double the suggested rate (indicated on seed mix packaging) is desirable. If overseeding without any site prep (i.e. tillage, chemical treatment, etc.) then 4 times the suggested rate is desired for quality seed coverage. Even though this is an annual mix there can be an early spring mowing during a dormant phase that might be in early April, allowing these plants to reseed themselves and have a second year of blooms following a successful first year of growth. This product is pre-inoculated with Elevate'd Fungi to increase the biological activity in your soil.  Elevate'd Fungi is a seed applied inoculant derived from natural products designed to stimulate seed germination, increase root and biological biomass in the soil, and improve soil structure. OMRI status has been applied for and is pending.  Note this inoculant is NOT currently OMRI approved, however many of our certified organic customers have received approval to use this product. • Buckwheat (Mancan) Buckwheat (Mancan)

    Buckwheat (Mancan)

Buckwheat is a fast establishing broadleaf that works great as a warm season cover crop. Buckwheat is also known for being a phosphorus scavenger. Which means it can take up more phosphorus efficiently than other plants. Being a short season plant around 45-60 days, it can still produce viable seed throughout the growing season. In a situation where the one plant is grazed it can drop a seed down to take that previous plant's spot to help prevent weeds. This plant while dropping and producing these seeds can also flower making it a great species for pollinators.

  • Chickpeas (Desi) Chickpeas (Desi)

    Chickpeas (Desi)

As the most heat tolerant of the cool season legumes, chickpeas offer a versatility that can be used in both warm and cool season mixes. Though not a great biomass producer, chickpeas are very drought tolerant and can help cover the ground in the midst of a summer drought. This taprooted plant can be used with grasses to add diversity and help break up compaction. As a legume, chickpeas will also fix nitrogen into the soil.

  • Hubam White Sweet Clover - OMRI Inoculated Hubam White Sweet Clover - OMRI Inoculated

Hubam White Sweet Clover - OMRI Inoculated

Hubam White Sweet Clover can produce up to 9,000 lbs dry matter per acre over a summer after being oversown into a grain crop or direct seeded with a spring grain nurse crop. While its taproot is shorter and more slender than that of its biennial cousins, it still loosens subsoil compaction. Annual sweetclovers work best in the Deep South, from Texas to Georgia as they are not frost tolerant. There, they establish more quickly than the biennial types and produce more biomass in the seeding year in southern regions.
