  • Annual Summer Honey Mix Annual Summer Honey Mix

    Annual Summer Honey Mix

    Out of stock

The Annual Summer Honey Mix was developed in conjunction with the Nebraska Beekeepers Association. This annual honey mix is specially designed with annual species that will offer up copious amounts of nectar for honeybees during the entire season. Plant when ground temperatures reach 50-55°F from mid-April to late May in Zone 5 (earlier in Zone 6 and later in Zone 4). 1/8” planting depth is ideal, no deeper than 1/4” in planting depth. Can be drilled or broadcast seeded, but if broadcast double the suggested rate (indicated on seed mix packaging) is desirable. If overseeding without any site prep (i.e. tillage, chemical treatment, etc.) then 4 times the suggested rate is desired for quality seed coverage. Even though this is an annual mix there can be an early spring mowing during a dormant phase that might be in early April, allowing these plants to reseed themselves and have a second year of blooms following a successful first year of growth. These seeds are non-GMO and not treated with pesticides. This product is pre-inoculated with Elevate'd Fungi to increase the biological activity in your soil.  Elevate'd Fungi is a seed applied inoculant derived from natural products designed to stimulate seed germination, increase root and biological biomass in the soil, and improve soil structure. This product is OMRI approved.*  *Note to Organic Customers: Please receive approval to use these inoculants prior to using this product on Certified Organic land.

  • Corn Interseeding Mix (for V3-V6 stage) Corn Interseeding Mix (for V3-V6 stage)

Corn Interseeding Mix (for V3-V6 stage)

    Out of stock

Adding diversity in a corn and soybean rotation is often difficult due to the short season left after harvest. To help with this, many producers are considering interseeding their corn at V3-V5 stage. At this stage, the corn gets the head start it needs but still allows light to bring up the cover crop before the canopy closes. This corn interseeding blend introduces all four functional groups - legumes, grasses, brassicas, and broadleaves - to add diversity to the soil. With more root exudates, beneficial insect attraction, and nutrient cycling, this blend helps build soil alongside the corn. Plus, after corn harvest, the already established species can continue to grow with the newfound sunlight. The green material also boosts nutritional values for grazing stalks.  These seeds are non-GMO and not treated with pesticides. This product is pre-inoculated with Elevate'd Fungi and RhizoBac X-Tend, to increase the biological activity in your soil.  Elevate'd Fungi is a seed applied inoculant derived from natural products designed to stimulate seed germination, increase root and biological biomass in the soil, and improve soil structure. • Florida Broadleaf Mustard (Shield) Florida Broadleaf Mustard (Shield)

    Florida Broadleaf Mustard (Shield)

Mustard produces significantly more glucosinolates than other brassicas, which biofumigates the soil during decomposition, proving to be toxic to many soil pathogens and pests. If this is your goal than another mustard species should be utilized, since this cultivar isn't as suited for this purpose. Growing mustard in a potato rotation was observed to increase tuber quality and yields similar to that of chemically fumigated fields. Other documented effects of having mustard in your rotation is suppressing potato early dying and reduced root rot in pea rotations. Some customers are concerned that these mustards are difficult to control like their wild cousins but actually they can be easily terminated with many commonly utilized herbicides. Mustard forage is known for its ability to be utilized as a natural dewormer in grazing systems.

  • Hairy Vetch (MT)

    Hairy Vetch (MT)

Hairy vetch is one of the most winter hardy legumes. Being more winter hardy than common vetch, hairy vetch has the potential to withstand temperatures in excess of 5F with no cover. This species is known to have a great rooting system, with a tap root that will extend 1 to 3 feet into the soil profile. This taproot will allow the vetch to thrive even in dry conditions. When hairy vetch is placed into a mix, it can help bring the C:N ratio of the mixture down. This reduces the risk of nitrogen immobilization for the next crop.

    from $2.70 per lb

  • Hairy Vetch (Winter Warrior) Hairy Vetch (Winter Warrior)

    Hairy Vetch (Winter Warrior)

Hairy vetch is the most cold tolerant winter annual legume. Tolerating temperatures as low as -30 degrees, this is best planted before the first frost in the fall and then it will resume growth in the spring. Hairy vetch is slower to green up and has slower spring growth compared to cereal rye and wheat but once it does get going, it grows very fast, doubling it’s growth each week through the month of May. With patience and a delayed corn planting, a full stand of vetch can consistently produce over 200 lbs of nitrogen in its biomass. As part of a winter cover crop or forage mix, vetch is commonly grown with rye or triticale.

    Out of stock

Free Shipping on all Green Cover products on SeedTime. Green Cover's Overwintering Mix is a multi-species cover crop mix designed to be planted in the fall and overwinter, providing ground cover and a living root throughout the cold winter months. Hairy Vetch, Fixation Balansa Clover and Wyoming Winter Peas are some of the most cold-hearty legumes that will provide organic nitrogen in the spring. Elbon Cereal Rye and Winter Barley provide a carbon source and massive root growth.  Rapeseed is a great forage if you want to graze this mix, but it also provides a great taproot for breaking compacted soils. Crimping or mowing this mix will give you a mulch perfect for transplanting into in the spring. This mix can also be tilled into the soil as a green manure. Not sure where to start? Check out our Quick Start Guide on Cover Crops in the Garden. Ingredients Balansa Clover, Winter Peas, Cereal Rye, Winter Barley, Rapeseed, Hairy Vetch, Elevate'd Fungi Inoculant, and Bolster L Inoculant Though these seeds are not sourced from organic production, our seeds are non-GMO and not treated with pesticides. All inoculants are manufactured to organic standard. Planting  Broadcast and lightly incorporate 4-6 weeks before first frost. Minimum Germination Temperature: 40 °FBroadcast Seeding Rate: 2 lbs/1000 square feet (90 lbs per acre) Timing For best results, plant 4-6 weeks before the first average frost date during the fall. Planting can continue even through the first few frosts but the mix will likely not grow much in the fall and spring growth will be only from the most winter hardy species in the mix, likely rye, barley, and vetch. Termination For no-till applications, we recommend terminating Overwintering mix by crimping or mowing with a flail mower followed by a tarp for 2 weeks before your desired planting date. The cereal grains will crimp better when they are mature. When rye is shedding its pollen, it is ready for crimping. However, if you can't wait to plant, crimping can still be successful even when the plant is not yet mature if it is followed with a tarp to ensure that it is effectively terminated. Overwintering mix can also be terminated by tilling and incorporating as a green manure. Where the context allows, grazing can be effective at terminating overwintering mix if it is followed by a silage tarp. On a very small scale, cutting with a hand sickle or turning the soil over with a shovel and following with a tarp can also be effective. Inoculants This product is pre-inoculated with Elevate'd Fungi and Bolster L Inoculant to increase the biological activity in your soil.  Elevate'd Fungi is a seed applied inoculant derived from natural products designed to stimulate seed germination, increase root and biological biomass in the soil, and improve soil structure. • Rapeseed (Trophy) Rapeseed (Trophy)

    Rapeseed (Trophy)

Rape's rapid forage growth produces quality pasture equivalent to alfalfa, with a crude protein value around 16-17%. Boasted for its nutrient scavenging abilities, rape can accumulate potentially large amounts of residual N up to 120lbs N/A. Also, root exudates secreted by rape are known to aid in turning insoluble P into a more available form. Rapes seed cost is by far the cheapest of all the brassica species, generally less than $1/lb. Adding rape in between wheat crops has been shown to greatly reduce take-all in wheat. Rape has an excellent, deep penetrating tap-root with a dense fibourous root mass surrounding the tuber.

  • Spring Forage Barley (Lavina) - Beardless Spring Forage Barley (Lavina) - Beardless

Spring Forage Barley (Lavina) - Beardless

Barley has relatively low water usage compared to other cover crop species, especially during earlier growth stages. Under poor fertility conditions, barley would be a good choice and can help render P & K available for your next crop. Barley provides a good feed quality grain that can be harvested 2-3 weeks earlier than wheat which then allows your double crop/cover to be planted sooner.

  • Spring Lentil (Crimson) Spring Lentil (Crimson)

    Spring Lentil (Crimson)

Lentils thrives in cool, dry conditions where they can remain relatively free of disease hence, they are commonly grown in the norther Great Plains. With a shallow rooting structure that doesn't have the ability to reach subsoil moisture, lentils are a great option in front of cereals or deep rooting crops. If excessive moisture is present during the growing season it will delay plant maturity. This will be excellent for producers who want to plant a summer fallow mixture where the mix can continue to grow under ideal conditions. Lentils are known for their ability to emerge through thick cereal stubble due to their strong seedling vigor. With rapid seed germination, seedlings generally out grow the threat of insects or disease pressure during establishment. Lentils can also house mycorrhizal fungi. Mature lentil straw can be an option for feed as it is much higher in CP, digestibility and palatability when compared to cereal straws.
