Super Summer Release

Description

Got more deer than ability to produce quality forage?

I do!  I am Grant Woods and this is a blend I crafted in collaboration with Green Cover Seed.  This blend was field-tested in South Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Kansas, and more.  Through years of observations at my place (The Proving Grounds) and at several of my friends’ properties throughout much of the whitetail’s range, the blend is the best warm season food plot crop I’ve planted or seen during my 34 years as a professional wildlife biologist and I’m happy to make it available to you.

Superior Forage Production: This blend is intentionally designed to keep up with heavy browse pressure while still maintaining a thick cover to suppress weeds and be drought resistant. Years of experimenting with dozens of warm-season species in different combinations in diverse soils led to a mix that's resilient and productive.

Regenerates Quickly: Thanks to its unique formulation, Super Summer quickly regenerates, maintaining a vibrant, healthy plot throughout the summer season.

Weed Suppression: Produces dense stands of forage that outcompetes weeds, reducing the need for herbicides and promoting a healthier ecosystem for your deer.

Diverse & Palatable: Includes a variety of leaf shapes, plant heights, and timing of palatability.  Because of the species diversity and how the plants interact in this blend, it’s suitable for a wide range of soil types and conditions.

Pro Tip: To attract and feed deer throughout the year, drill or broadcast the Super Summer Release blend during the late spring followed by the Super Fall Release blend in late summer.

This product is pre-inoculated with the Green Boost 2.0 Biology Package, so you can reduce your fertilizer usage. Green Boost 2.0 includes:

  • MycoGreen NPK is a dual inoculant containing ten functionally diverse mycorrhizal fungi and eight bacterial species.
  • Elevate'd Fungi is a seed applied inoculant derived from natural products designed to stimulate seed germination, increase root and biological biomass in the soil, and improve soil structure.
  • RhizoBac X-Tend features high concentrations of multi-species nitrogen fixing rhizobia for peas, vetch, cowpeas, sunn hemp and soybeans. Additionally, free living nitrogen fixing and phosphorus solubilizing bacteria combine for a robust broad spectrum seed treatment for your cover crops.

Healthier and more vigorous plants will lead to healthier animals and bigger antlers!

Green Cover was not able to source all these seeds from organic certified production.  All seeds are non-GMO and non-treated.

    What's in the Mix

    Planting Instructions

Super Summer is best seeded using a no-till drill or other seeding device at a depth of 1/4" to 1/2" deep pending on the soil and planting conditions. In general, it's ok to place the seed deeper in loose soil (such as sandy soil) and shallower in soils that easily pack such as those with a high clay content. Super Summer can also be broadcast into areas with minimal plant competition such as a new plot or one where a seedbed has recently been prepared. Light incorporation or dragging can help with seed to soil contact but don't cover seeds with more than 1/2” of soil.

    Timing

Super Summer should be planted during the spring when the leaves on trees are almost fully formed or more precisely when the soil temperature at 2” deep at 9:00 AM is 60 degrees or warmer. There are lots of websites that report the current soil temperature daily for each county.

When is the right time to plant?

Super Summer Release has a minimum germination temp of 60 °F. Reference your average soil temperature to determine ideal planting time.

    1st time Summer release user

I follow Grant Woods closely and decided that this year I would plant the green cover summer release on my property. The area I chose was an old pond that had been backfilled with less than desirable soils. After several years of growing clover and corn crops over this area that always seem to burn up in the summer heat. It is now the end of June and we just come off a three day stretch of temperatures over 110 on the heat index and the crop of summer release never even curled a leaf. I’m hoping after several plantings of summer release, followed by fall release that it will help the soil become a more richer and fertile soil.

    Super SummerBlend

My food plots with the Supper Summer seed blend are looking great. Timely rains got them going early so I think they will be ready for the fall hunt. I may do some over seeding with the fall blend later
