Hidey Hole

Description

One of the best strategies to tag a big buck is a Hidey Hole plot close to cover. Bucks seem very comfortable feeding in these small plots and when they are close to cover, bucks often feed there after daylight and before dark. This blend was designed exactly for this mission. It includes a planting rate of specific forage crops that will produce a lot of food and help control weeds.

This product is pre-inoculated with the Green Boost Biology Package, so you can reduce your fertilizer usage. Green Boost includes:

  • Elevate'd Fungi is a seed applied inoculant derived from natural products designed to stimulate seed germination, increase root biological biomass in the soil, and improve soil structure.
  • MycoGreen NPK, a dual inoculant containing ten functionally diverse mycorrhizal fungi and eight bacterial species.
  • Rhizo-Fixer Plus Inoculant contains multiple families of nitrogen-fixing rhizobia bacteria plus Azospirillum Brasiliense (free living N fixer) and two phosphorus-solubilizing bacteria, Pantoea Eucalypti and Pseudomonas Baetica.

Healthier and more vigorous plants will lead to healthier animals and bigger antlers!

Green Cover Seed was not able to source these seeds from organic production. We certify that to the best of our knowledge these seeds are non-GMO and not treated with pesticides and that all coatings and inoculants are manufactured to organic standard.

    Ingredients

Fixation Balansa Clover, Alfalfa, Crimson Clover, Spring Oats, Black Oats, Cereal Rye, Buckwheat, Radish, Turnip, and GreenBoost Biology Package

    Planting Instructions

Hidey Hole is best seeded using a no-till drill or other seeding device and placing seed at a depth of 1/4" to 1/2". It can also be broadcast into areas with minimal plant competition such as a new plot or one where a seedbed has recently been prepared. Light incorporation or dragging can help with seed to soil contact but don't cover seeds with more than 3/4” of soil.

    Timing

Hidey Hole should be planted 6-8 weeks before the first average frost date during the fall and when there’s adequate soil moisture or a forecast of rain.

    Seeding Rate

Plant 94 pounds per acre when seeding with a no-till drill or other planting implement and 100 pounds per acre when broadcasting.

    "Time will tell" Review update

Broadcasted my seed in before a "heavy rain" was expected to hit. Needless to say, the heavy part missed. Probably have only had maybe an inch of rain over the last three weeks, but probably under that. Pleased with the germination and growth that I have gotten over the last two and a half weeks. Plot is patchy, but that is due to layers of duff that I tried to spread around as a mulch layer to keep seed from getting backed off and retain whatever little moisture we get. Deer activity has certainly ramped up, so hopefully they don't eat me out of house and home. Very pleased so far. This is an experimental year and with better prep next year, I could see a massive hidey hole success story.
